2008-08-26 - CONTENT NoE in Schloss Dagstuhl Seminar on Benchmarking of Future Content Distribution

Schloss Dagstuhl - Leibniz Center for Informatics (German: Schloss Dagstuhl - Leibniz-Zentrum für Informatik GmbH)  is the world's premier venue for informatics. It enables the international elite, promising young researchers and practicians alike to gather together to discuss their views and research findings.

Prof. Ral Steinmetz (Technical University of Darmstadt), Prof. Thomas Plagemann (University of Oslo) and Prof. Andreas Mauthe (Lancaster University) have organized a Dagstuhl Seminar on Benchmrking of Future Content Networks.

Abstract:

Upcoming Content Distribution systems rely heavily on overlay infrastructures that follow the Peer-to-Peer paradigm and use self-organization principles. Evaluating these solutions is a particular challenge since a number of challenging aspects (such as decentralization, self-organization degree, transparency, scalability, etc). have to be considered alongside the more conventional performance and cost metrics.

Withing the European Network of Excellence CONTENT a Benchamrking  Framework is being developed to facilitate the evaluationof upcoming content distribution infrastructures at different levels, including network, overlay and service level. This framework is being implemented in different simulation environments; the principles are used in the evaluation of existing systems. This workshop aims at looking ath the specific challenges due to the use self-organization principles in content distribution networks (CDN) and how to best capture their requirements in order to reflect them in the bechmarking of the future CDN.
